Getting Ready
Preparation
Students need not necessarily have prior experience with the German language in order to do an internship in Berlin. Regardless of internship language, all students are required to participate in the prep course, IAS 369R, taught during the second block of fall semester for the winter program and during the second block of winter semester for the spring/summer and fall programs. Accompanying spouses need to be credit-bearing participants on the program, apply online, and register for the prep course.
Costs
Full-time students: $5,000–5,500
Accompanying spouses: $3,300-3,800
Includes: BYU LDS undergraduate full-time tuition, housing, internship placement, public transit pass for Berlin, and international health insurance coverage
Not included: international airfare, meals, personal expenses, passport
Funding sources
Regular BYU tuition scholarships, Federal Insured Student Loans, and Pell Grants may be applied to international programs.
Students who submit the financial aid section of the ISP application, and who have a current FAFSA form on file at the Financial Aid Office (A-41 ASB), will be considered for a Study Abroad scholarship. Academic departments and colleges may assist with scholarships and grants. Private grants and scholarships outside of BYU may also assist (see kennedy.byu.edu/student/scholarships). The College of Humanities provides a program discount to students participating in international internships ($2000 for humanities majors and $1000 for humanities minors).
